57 Channels And Too Much On

Now that I have a more-or-less working PVR, what have I discovered about TV?

Damn, there’s an awful lot of Star Trek on…

I wasn’t about to go through the entire listings hour by hour, channel by channel, but fortunately MythTV has a few ways of helping you search by breaking them down by title and genre. There’s a separate list for just upcoming movies too, so you don’t have to sift through all the regular TV shows to find them. It thus didn’t take long to get all the old favourites tagged, and before long I’ll probably have more ST:TOS and ST:TNG captured than I could possibly want. I’m going to have to get a DVD burner before I run out of disk space…

I was disappointed that I couldn’t find a few that I’d been hoping for, though. No Connections, no Blake’s 7, no B5, not even any Dr. Who despite getting two different PBS stations. But on the bright side I ran across a few I wasn’t expecting, too; shows that I just barely remembered from when I was a kid, like Kimba The White Lion, and older documentaries like World At War. I’ll also finally be able to check out some of the shows that people keep telling me about but I never remember to actually look up and catch, like Chappelle’s Show and Mythbusters.

And wow, are there ever some explicit shows on after midnight…

  1. Look for Penn & Teller’s show Bullshit, I don’t recall what channel it’s on but it’s highly entertaining. :)

I am very sad that PBS around here doesn’t air Dr. Who episodes either.

  2. I’ve heard of it, but unfortunately I think it’s only available on satellite here. I think I know where I could get torrents of it, though…
