Dissident

Yesterday, a day important for gamers everywhere in North America, I went down to Future Shop with one goal in mind. I was determined to buy…a Nintendo DS.

Yeah, yeah, the PSP has very nice specs, the initial reviews are positive so far, and the title lineup looks good. But, I still have a whole bunch of GBA games I want to get or finish off. I don’t really like to play on my current GBA since the lack of a backlight is a serious problem for someone whose free time is mostly in the late evenings, so I need to upgrade it anyway. And, being your typical gadgetphile, why settle for an SP when a DS would open up some additional possibilities?

Except I didn’t buy one.

They only had three units available, two of which were previously opened, and the one new one was still $200. The title selection was pretty thin too — not all that many games have even been released yet, and they didn’t even have a single copy of major ones like Mario 64 DS. Those more or less killed my enthusiasm, and so I’ve put off picking up a DS even longer. Hopefully the PSP competition will drive the price down a bit more, and they’ll start releasing more decent titles soon…

So, I picked up a bunch of PS2 games instead.

God Of War: I hadn’t even heard of this one until yesterday, but everyone and their dog seems to love it, so I figure it’s worth a look. Usually games of this type are too difficult or frustrating for me if they depend on obscure, complex combos, but supposedly this one’s not too bad.

Gran Turismo 4: I was hesitant about this one since I’m not even very far into GT3 yet. Upon further thought though, these games aren’t really like your typical sequels where you move on to something a bit different; each release is more like a superset of previous releases, so I may as well go ahead and ditch the old one and start enjoying all the new stuff in this one immediately. Even though I’ll probably still suck at it…

The Simpsons – Road Rage: Middling reviews or not, how could I *not* pick this one up? :-)

Mega Man 15th Anniversary Collection: Ah, nostalgia…
