Pushin’ That Rock

As part of the effort to work more exercise into my day, I’ve been taking the stairs instead of the elevator whenever possible. It’s a lot more practical at the office now that we’re only five flights of stairs up instead of seventeen.

Unfortunately, the building staff is being a bit lax in their duties. About half the time, I come in in the morning, walk up the stairs, and suddenly discover that the stairwell door is still locked, even though they’re supposed to have opened it an hour earlier. So, then I have to go back down and take the elevator up anyway.

At least I still get the exercise, but it still feels pointless sometimes…

(Update: And it’s still locked as of lunchtime…)

  1. I just had something similar happen to me, as well. I come in at 7am. I work on the sixth floor, but to get up there, I have to take the stairs up to seven and the elevator down to six. It’s weird, though, because you can’t take any other exit on any floor. You have to go up to seven and then back down, should you want to take the stairs. Seems kind of dangerous in case of a fire…

  2. Heh, yay for weird building policies.

Looks like it may be moot for me anyways — it seems that the only reason they’ve been unlocking the stairwells at all is so we can reach the washrooms on other floors while ours is still under construction. Once it’s finished they’ll probably keep it locked all the time, so much for that idea…

  3. Do you still walk in the evenings? Matt and I have been walking the Nike track at least once every couple of days. It’s a two mile bust-yo-ass track, if I do say so myself. It’s nice, too. It’s basically a big mulch path around the Nike Campus a few blocks from here. Complete with hills, a mini-forest, waterfalls, and views of cool soccerfields and the likes, it’s pretty cool. I enjoy it. I never really thought exercise could *really* make you unwind, but it totally does. I feel so much less stressed after a good walk.
